ORLANDO, FLORIDA

At least one person was injured getting off a plane at Orlando International Airport on Tuesday when a tug hit the jetbridge, officials said.

United Airlines Flight 1294 from Houston arrived at OIA Gate 44 at 10:37 a.m. and as passengers were getting off the plane, the jetbridge was hit, according to OIA officials.

The tug driver, who is not an OIA employee but a company contracted through United Airlines, suffered an injury to the leg and was taken to the hospital. OIA officials said a child in the jetway bumped his head, but his parents refused medical treatment for the child.

A passenger told Local 6 the pilot came over the speaker and said that there was an accident and a couple people were injured.

"They stopped us and said that they had an emergency," said passenger Veronica Garcia. "That somebody got hurt."

Passengers waited for a new jetbridge to be brought so they could get off of the plane and were taken to a new gate.

"Just a freak accident happened and that we had to wait awhile until we got off," Garcia said.

A tug is a vehicle that latches on to the front of the airplane and pulls it at the airport.

The jetbridge involved in the crash was taken out of service and replaced, officials said.
