DIESEL FUEL SPILL AFTER DALTON HIGHWAY TANKER TRAILER TRUCK ACCIDENT IN ALASKA

TUESDAY, MARCH 24, 2015

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA

Traffic is delayed on the Dalton Highway today as crews respond to a fuel spill north of the Yukon River.

An unknown amount of fuel spilled in a single-vehicle accident when a trailer carrying diesel fuel fell off the truck that was carrying it near 65 Mile, said Ashley Adamczak, an environmental program specialist with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. The accident was reported at about 11:30 a.m. today, she said.

Traffic is slowed in the area because of oil spilled onto the highway, according to the Alaska Department of Transportation.

It won't be known how much diesel spilled from the punctured truck trailer until the remaining diesel in the truck is measured, Adamczak said.
