FORT LEE, NEW JERSEY
One person died after a vehicle collided with a tractor
trailer on the upper level eastbound portion of the George Washington Bridge
early Sunday morning, police said.
Port Authority Police said at approximately 2 a.m., a Honda
Accord with four people inside it collided with a tractor trailer on the
bridge’s upper level.
Two of the four passengers needed to be removed by Port
Authority tunnel and bridge agents after being pinned during the accident,
according to Port Authority Police Public Information Officer Joe Pentangelo.
The victim, a New York City resident, was pronounced dead at
5 a.m. at Harlem Hospital in New York, Pentangelo said. The three other
passengers were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition, Pentangelo
said. No summonses have been issued but the incident remains under
investigation, Pentangelo said.
Traffic was diverted from the accident, police said, however
traffic is moving normally at this time and the upper level has reopened.
