Firefighters in Oakland battled a two-alarm blaze in the superstructure of a cargo ship berthed at the Port of Oakland on Sunday evening.

The fire was reported just before 6 p.m. Sunday aboard the MOL Contribution berthed at Pier 32 at the port, according to media reports. The Oakland Fire Department tweeted that the fire broke out in an officer’s cabin about five floors above the ship’s main deck. Firefighters were faced with heavy smoke and tight quarters in battling the blaze.

The fire was brought under control within about a half hour of the Oakland Fire Department’s arrival, the Department tweeted.

Reports say that smoke and some fire damaged spread from the cabin to some nearby areas of the ship.

No injuries were reported.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.

The 90,000 DWT MOL Contribution is Marshall Islands-flagged and was built in 2014.
