On January 5, Teekay spokesperson Jonathan Anthony confirms in an emailed statement, their fully-loaded 165,600 m3 LNG carrier Magellan Spirit “grounded in soft mud while under pilotage exiting the Bonny Island LNG terminal in Nigeria.”
The vessel is still in situ with tugs on station to assist. The crew and cargo are safe, according to Teekay
Our emergency response team is mobilized and continues to work with all relevant authorities and expert advisors to consider all available options to refloat the vessel, including dredging under the vessel and lightening the vessel by way of a ship-to-ship transfer of a portion of the bunker fuel and/or cargo.
A further attempt to refloat the vessel is scheduled for early next week.
