BAKER COUNTY, Oregon — 


The two people on board an airplane that took off from Caldwell, Idaho, Saturday morning died when it crashed in eastern Oregon.

The Baker County Sheriff's Office says the single-engine airplane crashed near Lindley Road and I-84, in a hay field belonging to Sam Johnson.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found that the airplane had crashed nose-first into the ground. The two people on board did not survive the crash. Their identities will not be released until next of kin has been notified.

The airplane had been traveling from Caldwell and was believed to have been en route to the Baker Airport.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration N-number registry, the airplane was a single-engine Mooney M20K, manufactured in 1979, and registered to a business in Canyon County, .

The Baker County Sheriff’s Office is working with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause of the crash.

The Baker City Fire Department, Baker Rural Fire Department, Baker City Police Department, and Oregon State Police assisted the Baker County Sheriff's Office at the scene.

The owner is listed as CKD LLC (Commercial Kitchen Design, LLC) of Middleton, Idaho. The owner of the business is listed as

EXPERIENCE

Mr. Watts started his career in the food service design profession as a production draftsman, moving up to bidder, estimator and designer. In 1971, he became self-employed as a food service consultant and president of Wattsco Design.

As designer/project coordinator, he has recently designed two projects at UCLA: the Cooperate Renovation Project and the LuValle Dining Commons. The Tyler Campus Center at Pepperdine University and the Harvey Mudd Dining Commons at Harvey Mudd College. The new Kaiser Hospital main kitchen in Harbor City, California was designed by Mr. Watts. He has experience in designing penal institutions, having done design at the Vista Detention Center Expansion in Vista, California, the Maximum Security Prison and the Medium North Security Facility at the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Ranch in Los Angeles. He also has experience in designing school projects K to 12, restaurants, hotels, commissaries, convention centers and bakeries.

Ms. Karen Breaux is president and majority owner of Commercial Kitchen Design (CKD). Her responsibilities are primarily to manage the business. She handles all of the business responsibilities from management to accounting, tax forms and systems implementation. All internal management systems, personnel management and office procedures are managed by Ms. Breaux. She also serves as office manager of the Boise, Idaho office and is head of the marketing efforts.

EDUCATION

Graduate of the California State University at Northridge with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and an option in Management. Graduated cum laude, 3.50 G.P.A.

EXPERIENCE

Ms. Breaux has extensive experience in business management. This is also why she is president and majority owner of Commercial Kitchen Design. She has an uncanny ability to manage a business and to over-see personnel. In addition, she has experience with tax laws, accounting, legal requirements and computers.

After graduating from CSUN she trained with Hilton Hotels as a management candidate. After only three weeks on the job, she was promoted to front desk supervisor where she trained and supervised new employees. Her next position was with a restaurant where she supervised 20 employees, trained employees and made operational decisions for the restaurant owners.

Most recently, Ms. Breaux served as a contract administrator for a large construction corporation. As the administrator, she developed service/warranty department tracing systems and reporting procedures, including manuals. In addition, she was a direct liaison to the client where she was responsible for change orders, material costing and labor costing. She also monitored production issues regarding material shortage and delivery schedules. She oversaw a staff that prepared monthly status reports and tracking systems on construction progress.

AIRPLANE CRASH NEAR I84 IN BAKER COUNTY


On August 11, 2018, the Baker County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an airplane crash near Lindley Road and I84. The single engine airplane crashed in a hay field belonging to Sam Johnson. 


Upon arrival, law enforcement located a small passenger airplane that had crashed nose first into the ground. The two occupants did not survive the crash. The airplane had been travelling from Caldwell, Idaho and was believed to have been enroute to the Baker Airport. 


The investigation is ongoing. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause of the crash. The identity of the victims will not be released until next of kin has been notified.


The Baker County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Baker City Fire Department, Baker Rural Fire Department, Baker City Police Department, and Oregon State Police.

An airplane crash has been reported in the area of Lindley Road north of I84 at approximately 10:20 a.m. The Baker County Sheriff's Office and emergency personnel are on scene and are working in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. The investigation is ongoing. More details to follow.

Narrative:
The aircraft impacted farmland in a near vertical descent east of Baker City Municipal Airport (KBKE), Baker City, Oregon. The aircraft sustained substantial damage and the two occupants received fatal injuries.
