A roofing worker who was working on the roof of United Rental in
Chesapeake died after he fell off the building Tuesday morning, the Chesapeake Fire Department said.

The accident happened just after 8 a.m. at United Rental, located in the 4300 block of Bainbridge Boulevard. Arriving firefighters found the 25-year-old man had fallen through a skylight in the roof. A Nightingale air ambulance was called but did not transport, as the man died at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Chesapeake Fire Department said the man was employed by a contractor who was hired to complete some work on the roof.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — 


A 25-year-old man died in an industrial accident Monday in Chesapeake after falling while working at United Rentals.

The accident reportedly happened at 4333 Bainbridge Blvd around 8 a.m., according to the Chesapeake Fire Department.

Firefighters reported the man fell through a skylight and onto items below. The man, a temp service employee, was employed by Allied Services, who was hired to complete roof work.

A Nightingale air ambulance was called but the man died from his injuries before being taken to the hospital, fire officials said.

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Shawn Spears of Virginia Beach.

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is currently investigating the accident.
