BUSHWICK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- One teenager is dead and another critically injured after they fell 30 feet while jumping building to building in Brooklyn.
It happened on Grove Street in Bushwick on Friday evening.
The boys fell approximately 30 feet to the ground.
"We just heard this loud thud. Like one like this after another," said Albert Mathew, a resident.
Residents in the building, described the mortifying sound of death.
The 13-year-old boy died at Kings County Hospital and the other, a 15-year-old boy, is in critical condition.
"We didn't hear anything except for the thud. I was talking to my roommate and out of nowhere just loud thuds. No screams, no conversations, no loud voices. Just thuds. Just the impacts," a witness said.
Neighbors say teens who don't live there are often accessing the roof.
There is a sign posted on the front door.
Nearby residents meanwhile are not surprised.
"Kids play on the roof. That's a normal thing. It's been going on for years. I did it when I was young. I did it too. I used to jump across the gap and stuff to see if I could do it," said Steve Somerville, a resident.
There is a police investigation underway.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — One teenage boy is dead and one was left in critical condition after they fell 30-feet from a roof in Bushwick, Brooklyn Friday.
As CBS2’s Jessica Layton reported, police said the teens fell 50 feet from an apartment building at 57 Grove St. in Brooklyn just before 6 p.m.
One of the boys, 13, was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. He suffered severe trauma to his head and body, police said.
The other boy suffered injuries to his pelvis and was conscious and alert at the hospital late Friday, police said.
It is believed the teens were jumping from building to building and fell from the roof, sources said.
“I’ve never heard of someone trying to jump off my building,” said Nasir Brown.
Brown was feeling numb Friday night after learning the two teens – whom he frequently looks out — had fallen off the roof of his three-story apartment building into the back courtyard.
“I don’t know if they were play-fighting and one ended up tussling over, or if they were are actually trying play and like to dare each other to jump over,” Brown said.
Anyone who heard the fall from the building described the same sound.
“I just came home from work, and we just heard this loud thud; like two thuds right after another,” said Albert Mathew.
Tenants said the ambulance arrived in minutes to rush the boys to the hospital. But the New York City Medical Examiner’s office arrived on the scene soon afterward upon revelations that the boy did not survive.
“I just try to warn them, and they’re just kids,” Brown said. “I did not think they would take it to that level.”
Neighbor said the building has been the side of a lot of problems, specifically teens going to the roof to party and horse around. But they were heartbroken for the families of the teens involved.
The teens’ names have not been released yet.
We were all doing "stupid" stuff when we were kids. But this kind of behavior is like playing Russian Roulette with one's life. They received their final destination way too early for some adrenaline rush. Sad, very sad.

BUSHWICK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A teenager is recovering after a daring game turned deadly. He and another boy tried jumping from the roof of one building to another in Brooklyn - both fell, and a 13-year-old died.
Police found the two boys on the ground behind the building on Grove Street around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The 13-year-old was unresponsive, and the other boy had serious injuries. It appears the teens were attempting to jump from roof-to-roof.
Those who live in the neighborhood say they have seen people jumping before, but those who saw the teen after the fall are still shaken.
"We just hear, like this really big thud, and we thought somebody fell on the stairs, but the noise was coming from outside, so we were really confused, and then we just hear somebody yell out 'oh my God, he fell!'" said Abey Joy.
Throughout the day on Saturday, friends of the teen stopped by with balloons, and to share their memories of their classmate. Their parents tell Eyewitness News that this is a hard lesson for them to talk to their teens about. However, we believe that this is an easy lesson to talk about:MONKEY IS, MONKEY DOES, MONKEY DEAD.
