MEDINA, N.D. (KFGO) - Fire has destroyed the Diamond W Feeds Elevator in Medina, North Dakota.
Fire Chief Brian Rau says the lower level of the elevator complex was filled with smoke when firefighters arrived on scene shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday.
He says after several hours trying to extinquish the smoldering fire on the lower level, they discovered flames had spread to the elevator's upper level. Firefighters were pulled out and Rau says at that point, all crews could do was to pour water on the fire. One firefighter was treated for minor burns to his face.
He says firefighters also spent several hours putting out small grass fires as far as a half mile from town. Those fires sparked by burning embers blown by high winds.
Assisting Medina, were fire departments from Tappen, Streeter, Woodworth, Cleveland, and jamestown.
