Parents killed, 2 children seriously injured during their Flroda Disney vacation in I-4 crash near DeLand, FL

ORLANDO, FLA. - Two children are fighting for their lives after a fatal crash that claimed the lives of their parents. The victims are from MO but the crash happened in Florida during their Disney vacation.

Florida Highway Patrol said a 2016 Ford Focus was driving eastbound on I-4 near DeLand Florida Sunday around noon. The driver, 43-year-old Charles King of New London, North Carolina, drifted into left lane and struck the right side of a 2007 Nissan. The Nissan then left the roadway and struck a tree.

Officials say the two adult occupants of the Nissan, 40-year-old Greg Moyers and 39-year-old Sarah Moyers – both of Leadwood, Missouri -- died on scene.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the family had saved for months to go on a trip to Disney World. They were headed to the beach Sunday before driving home.

Crews worked for more than an hour to extricate two children from the backseat of the car. Officials told reporters on scene the children are the Moyers’ daughters.

Officials said 13-year old Hailey Moyers and 8-year old Sophia Moyers survived the crash, and were transported to a Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. Troopers said Hailey had serious injuries, and they listed Sophia’s injuries as critical.

The crash report says everyone in the Moyers’ vehicle was wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the first vehicle, 43-year old Charles King of New London, North Carolina, was uninjured. He was also wearing a seatbelt.

The crash, which is still under investigation, shut down part of the Florida interstate for more than five hours Sunday afternoon.
