Police investigate fatal workplace accident at Kosmos Cement Company

Metro police are investigating a fatal workplace accident in southern Jefferson County.
It happened at Cemex Kosmos Cement Company in the 15000 block of Dixie Highway around 6:43 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said Richard Joseph Snyder, 33, was killed.
Snyder died of multiple injuries as a result of a pulley system mechanical failure.
Snyder was pronounced dead at the scene.
The company released a statement Wednesday:
"The entire Kosmos Cement family is deeply saddened by the tragic accident involving a contractor that occurred at our plant yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We are working closely with the authorities to investigate the accident."
In April, Kosomos Cement pleaded guilty in federal court to violating workplace safety rules in another onsite death.
In Febraury 2014, a contract worker fell four floors down an elevator shaft to his death.
The company agreed to pay a $400,000 fine, and to repair or upgrade elevators and escalators to meet safety standards.
