FIREFIGHTER SUFFERS FROM HEAT RELATED INJURIES IN DALLAS
August 2, 2016
An overnight fire destroyed Fruteria Cano and Fide’s Beauty Salon in Old East Dallas.
Firefighters responded to the 800 block of Beacon Street at 12:07 a.m. Tuesday to a one-story commercial building with heavy smoke and fire in the attic.
Initial reports indicated that a firefighter had suffered heat-related injuries and been treated on scene, but Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said in an email sent about 10:45 a.m. that there was no firefighter “injured.”
“I can’t confirm or deny whether anyone was evaluated at the scene for heat-related issues, but there was no one taken to the hospital for any reason,” he wrote.
Crews attempted an interior attack, but the fire that had been burning awhile left the roof compromised. Soon after they started battling the blaze from outside, the roof collapsed.
Additional engines and trucks were called to assist.
After an hour and 40 minutes the blaze ended, though authorities expected it would smolder for several hours.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
