YONKERS, New York (WABC) -- Six people were rescued from a three-alarm fire in a Yonkers apartment building Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out on the second floor of the McLean Avenue building just before 2 a.m. It was out by 5 a.m.
"It was four burn injuries and another two were more critical. They were taken to Jacobi Medical Center," said Yonkers Assistant Fire Chief Robert Antulov. "We also had approximately a dozen firefighters treated for various minor injuries."
The fire started in apartment 2D. Victims exited the building through smoke-filled hallways. Some of them sustained burn injuries, smoke inhalation. The door was left open, which extended the fire into the hallway, and up to the third floor.
Antulov said one woman ran into her bathroom with her cat. "We brought her out and transported to the hospital," he said.
Firefighters rescued two victims from the third floor. "One was found in the hallway. One was unconscious when rescued. Both carried out of the building," he said.
"It could have been a lot worse," said Antulov.
