Teacher and student pilot injured after a Robinson R-22 helicopter crashes at MacArthur Airport in Long Island, New York

LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK
 
A helicopter crashed at Long Island MacArthur Airport, according to the Town of Islip.

The town, which runs the airport, says the incident occurred at around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. 


A teacher and pilot were inside the small R22 helicopter, hovering 1-2 feet off the ground as the instructor was trying to tech the student how to maneuver at such low elevation, when it crashed between two runways on the field, officials say. 

Although both occupants were shaken, only one person was taken to the hospital with a possible injury.
