ANDERSON COUNTY, SC

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a woman died following a crash on Sunday afternoon.

Troopers said they were called to SC-28 Bypass at McGee Road around 12:10 p.m.

Lance Cpl. Tony Keller said a woman was attempting to turn left onto McGee Road and failed to yield right-of-way. She was struck head-on by the driver of another vehicle, he said.

Keller said the victim was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Anmed Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.

Coroner Don McCown identified the woman as Peggy Lynn Baker, 70, of Anderson. McCown said she died due to blunt force chest trauma.

Elderly drivers cause many accidents.  We need to force drivers to take driving refresher courses every 5 years or more often.  Drivers must also be tested for eye-sight, hearing, drugs, etc.  Many thousands of deaths and hundreds of thousands of injuries would be prevented if we do so.  Please remember that a vehicle is a lethal weapon and only a regularly-trained, capable and fit person should operate it.
