The three men were in a Dodge truck when the driver lost control as he traveled on eastbound I-80 between Northwest Boulevard and Brady Street just after 2 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, according to Davenport Police. The truck overturned and two of the men were ejected from the truck.
The driver and one other man were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash; the third occupant was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and later taken to a hospital in Iowa City. The surviving occupant was listed in critical condition.
Police later identified the driver as 30-year-old Marcos Wheeler of Davenport, Iowa. The passenger who died was identified as 29-year-old Mario Obregon of Muscatine.
Augustine Teneyuque, 24, of Muscatine, was hospitalized in critical condition at a hospital in Iowa City.
“Based on preliminary information, the cause of the crash is believed to be related to alcohol, speed and loss of control,” said Davenport Police Captain Brent Biggs.
Autopsies were pending for the men who perished in the crash.
The crash shut down eastbound I-80, then one lane reopened. All eastbound lanes were open by about 6:30 a.m., police said.
