The Deadly U.S. Roads, Nobody, Nowhere Safe: Wrong-way driver kills one, injures several others, causes major traffic delay on 410 in San Antonio, Texas

A wrong-way driver caused a major traffic delay after crashing into multiple cars and killing one person on Loop 410 in northwest San Antonio Saturday.

Police say 41-year-old Juan Rivera was driving the wrong way down Loop 410 near Culebra Saturday around 1 p.m. when he crashed into 8 vehicles, one of which was a fire truck.

Several victims were transported to area hospitals following the crashes. Police said one of those victims later died of his injuries.

Traffic was closed between Ingram Road and West Military Drive following the accident, backed up to Bandera Road.

Rivera was booked at the central magistrate's office Sunday morning. He faces a charge of felony intoxication assault. Authorities said Rivera will face additional charges of intoxication assault and one charge of intoxication manslaughter.
