RIDGEFIELD, N.J.

A driver killed after crashing on the New Jersey Turnpike very early Friday morning has been identified as an off-duty state trooper, state police said.

Trooper Glenny Almonte was driving south on the turnpike near Ridgefield in his personal vehicle — a silver Honda Accord — when he crashed, New Jersey State Police said.

The crash occurred on the Turnpike southbound at mile marker 115 at 1:44 a.m., said Trooper Alina Spies.

Further details about what caused the fatal collision were not known, but anonymous sources tell us that he was drunk and speeding when he crashed his car.

Trooper Glenny Almonte was off duty and in his personal car headed south when he somehow lost control and struck a curb and guardrail by the Vince Lombardi service area, police said.

The impact then pushed him into the path of a southbound tractor-trailer, which hit the driver’s side of Almonte’s car, police said.

Rescue crews extricated the trooper from the car and he was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Emergency personnel had to remove the driver from the car because the person was pinned inside, Spies said.

The individual was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center, Spies said.

Almonte, who graduated the State Trooper academy in October 2013, was assigned to the Totowa Station where he served as a general duty trooper, his department said.

“The loss of Trooper Glenny Almonte saddens the entire State Police family. We are offering support to Trooper Almonte’s loved ones as well as to all of our employees touched by this tragedy,” said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent.

Of course the public should see that they are protecting this drunk by not releasing the cause of the crash, the same way they did with the other drunk who killed 2 people 3months ago, Pedro Abad, Jr.

Almonte was a member of the 152nd State Police Class that graduated the academy on Oct. 4, 2013.  He was assigned to Totowa Station where he served as a general duty trooper, WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reported.

All lanes on the southbound western spur were shut down for hours as police investigated. Lanes were reopened around 8 a.m.
