Firefighters made quick work of a blaze at the Stein Clinical Research Building at UC San Diego Monday morning, San Diego Fire said.
The fire started around 4 a.m. on the first floor of the research facility off of Gillman Drive when a paint shaker machine melted.
The sprinkler system of the building was activated and kept the flames at bay until firefighters arrived a few minutes later. They managed to knock the fire down around 4:45 a.m.
Several Hazard Materials crews were at the scene to ensure no hazardous chemicals were released by the flames. They determined no such threat existed around 6:15 a.m.
No one was in the building at the time of the fire and no one was hurt.
