A town in North Dakota has been evacuated by authorities
after an oil train derailed on Wednesday morning, according to multiple
reports.
Valley News Live reports the Wells County Sheriff’s
Office has confirmed a BNSF train has left the tracks near Heimdal, with
witnesses reporting black smoke in the area.
An image of the crash by Jennifer Willis published on Facebook shows tankers have left the
track and caught fire.
Wells County emergency manager Tammy Roehrich told the Fargo Forum that the train derailed around
7:30 a.m., setting six oil tanker cars on fire.
KHND reports motorists have been told to steer clear of the
area by emergency officials, while KFGO has confirmed that Heimdal is in the process of being
evacuated, and that no injuries are reported.

Heimdal is a small town located between Harvey and New
Rockford, and has a population of just 27, according to the 2010 census.
