HAMTRAMCK,
MICHIGAN (WWJ/AP)
A state police cruiser was involved in a crash in Hamtramck.
Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said an MSP trooper
and a dispatcher trainee on a ride-along were both injured, Thursday
afternoon, in an accident along southbound I-75 at Caniff.
According to Shaw, the trooper and his passenger — a
woman — were on the left shoulder, policing another crash that took place
earlier — when the driver of another car in the left lane drove onto the left
shoulder and struck the patrol car.
Shaw said a distracted driver drove onto the left shoulder
of I- 75 and slammed into the back of the parked police car. The trooper and
dispatcher-in-training were taken to a local hospital and the trooper was later
released.

Investigators say the driver, who wasn’t hurt, was going
about 70 mph when he struck the patrol car on a stretch of the freeway in the
enclave of Hamtramck. He’s being questioned.
Southbound I-75 was closed at Caniff following the crash,
but has since reopened to traffic.
No names have been released.
