UPDATE 7:30 A.M: Officials said the tracks and service
reopened but there is still a speed restriction.
EARLIER: Yolo County officials confirmed Tuesday morning
that they received a call from Amtrak saying a train had hit a pedestrian and
that the pedestrian had died. The incident caused a partial shutdown of the
Amtrak service in Davis.
The accident happened along the railroad tracks near Davis;
an incident which Amtrak said shut down Capitol Corridor train service between
Sacramento and Davis, according to California Highway Patrol spokesperson
Richard Wetzel.
Wetzel said the investigation and subsequent shutdown of the
train service impacted local Amtrak commuters to and from the East Bay. System-wide
delays were expected.
Suicide by train? Drunk and/or dragged? Who knows?
