Five students were taken to a local hospital after exposure
to a loud explosive device at Ethan Chase Middle School in Menifee on Friday.
Authorities responded to the school at 28100 Calm Horizon Dr. just after 11 a.m. It was unclear what the explosive device was or why it was on campus.
Thirteen other students had minor injuries and were released to their parents.

The 18 students were “exposed to a loud explosive device and sustained minor injuries,” the Fire Department stated.
It was not immediately clear if the explosion was the result of classroom activity or a criminal situation.
