CHEMICAL SPILL OF RUBBER ASPHALT BINDER ON INTERSTATE 80 IN VACAVILLE, CALIFORNIA

MARCH 25, 2015

SOLANO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (CBS13)

Multiple works crews are on the scene of a chemical spill in Solano County that is causing a major freeway backup.

The incident is on eastbound Interstate 80 near Allison Drive in Vacaville.  Three of the four lanes of eastbound Interstate 80 are closed, causing a major backup.

CHP says the spill happened around 8:30 a.m. when a trailer became detached from a work truck then overturned.

Approximately 150 fifty gallons of rubber asphalt binder, a chemical used during road construction and maintenance, spilled onto the road.

There’s no word on when the lanes will reopen.

CHP urges drivers to take Highway 12 to Highway 113 to avoid the mess.

The driver told officers he was traveling 55 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
