DEADLY NORTH IOWA ACCIDENT THAT INVOLVED 6 VEHICLES, INCLUDING SEMI-TRAILERS

FEBRUARY 25, 2015

CERRO GORDO COUNTY, IOWA

The Iowa State Patrol is releasing more information about the deadly accident that happened on the Avenue of the Saints around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.  A north Iowa woman, Amy Hild, was killed.  Troopers say 6 vehicles were involved.  It happened near mile marker 193 in the eastbound lane.  Iowa State Patrol troopers were merging traffic into the left lane because of a previous collision that was blocking the right lane.

According to witness statements, this is how troopers were able to piece together the scene:

A Chrysler Town & Country, referred to as vehicle 6, operated by Nadzije Ademi, was eastbound.  A Dodge Grand Caravan, vehicle 5, operated by Keith Hillis and was also eastbound following vehicle 6. Vehicle 4, a Nissan Altima operated by Amy Hild, was eastbound following vehicle 5. Vehicle 3, a Chevy pickup operated by Bryan Hobbs, was eastbound following vehicle 4. Vehicle 2, a blue Peterbilt semi pulling a tanker and operated by Donald Logeman of Mason City, was eastbound following vehicle 3. Vehicle 1, a red Kenworth semi operated by Austin Lesher, of Utah, was eastbound following vehicle 2.

According to witness statements vehicles 4, 5 and 6 slowed. Vehicle 3 merged into the left lane and began to slow. Vehicle 2 also merged into the left lane but was not able to slow in time and struck vehicle 3. Vehicle 3 then spun off into the south ditch coming to final rest facing south.  Vehicle 1, which was in the right-hand lane, and vehicle 2 collided, causing vehicle 2 to enter the median, facing east. Vehicle 1 then rear-ended vehicle 4, the car with Hild inside, causing the vehicle to rotate counter-clockwise.  The semi hit Hild’s car again on the driver’s side door.  Hild’s car came to rest in the median facing northwest.

The semi went on to hit vehicle 5, which ended up in the south ditch. Vehicle 1 then collided with vehicle 6, which came to a final rest in the median facing east.  The semi then entered the south ditch where it hit a bridge.

Three people were taken to the hospital after the accident.  It is still under investigation.
