An oil rig explosion along the border of Texas and New Mexico killed one worker and injured three others.  The explosion occurred shortly before midnight last Friday, November 14th near Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The Eddy County Sherriff's department was called to the scene where one worker was already pronounced dead. Two workers were taken by helicopter to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas where they listed as being in critical condition. The fourth worker was taken to a nearby Carlsbad hospital. The deceased worker was a 23-year-old male from Hobbs, New Mexico, a town located along the border about halfway between Carlsbad and Lubbock. The identities of the other workers are still unknown.

An Eddy County sheriff said the explosion occurred at a BOBCO lease location while the rig was in operation. An investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway. No further details have been released.
