INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA

A male driver was killed after crashing his vehicle into a church in Inglewood early Thursday, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded to the 500 block of Eucalyptus Avenue around 12:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a car into a building, according to Supervisor Pitman with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Pitman said. His name has not been released.

An Urban Search and Rescue crew was called to the scene to remove the vehicle from the building, which was extensively damaged, according to Chris Reade with County Fire.

The car was later removed from the scene by a tow truck.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the crash, but tire tracks on the sidewalk appeared to indicate that the vehicle jumped the curb and plowed through a sign before crashing through church walls.

No further information about the investigation was immediately available.
