Worker crushed to death at the Huger Nucor Steel plant in Berkeley County, South Carolina

Berkeley and Charleston County Sheriff’s investigatrors are looking into a workplace fatality that occurred Saturday morning.

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the Huger Nucor Steel plant.

The victim, a sub-contractor from out-of-state, died after two pieces of moving equipment crushed him, Salisbury said.

Berkeley County and Charleston County Rescue Squads worked six hours to free the man, according to Salisbury.

OSHA has been notified and will assist the investigation.

Salisbury said his office will release the victim’s identity after notifying his family.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- 

An out-of-state contractor working at the Huger Nucor steel plant was crushed to death on Saturday. 

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury identified the man as 41-year-old Lisandro Carlo Triulzi of Spring, Texas.

Salisbury said the man was caught around 10:30 a.m. Sunday between two pieces of heavy machinery and crushed. He was pronounced dead on the scene despite crews from Berkeley and Charleston counties working for six hours to free him. 

The coroner's office and the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident. 

OSHA has also been called in to assist in the investigation.
