A tractor-trailer and a state police vehicle were involved in a crash on the northbound lane of Interstate 295 near the Richmond exit.

RICHMOND, Maine —
The driver of a tractor-trailer that rear-ended a state police cruiser and injured the trooper Thursday morning has been cited for failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.
Trooper Greg Stevens had just checked on another tractor-trailer stopped on Interstate 295 and returned to his cruiser when the other tractor-trailer “slammed into the rear” of the cruiser, which had its blue lights engaged, according to a news release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Gusan Yedic, 56, of Yorktown Heights, New York, was driving a tractor-trailer owned by Yamamoto Carrier Inc., of Buffalo Grove, New York. The truck burst into flames and ended up in the median, where a grass fire burned until extinguished by local firefighters.
Yedic was not injured.
Stevens, a 17-year veteran of the state police, is being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland for broken ribs and neck and leg injuries.
His 2015 Ford sport utility vehicle cruiser was demolished.
The tractor-trailer was scheduled to be removed from the interstate later Thursday afternoon. Drivers were encouraged to seek alternate routes.
