WATERLOO, Ind. (WANE) Police in Waterloo have shut down two blocks while responding to a fire on South Wayne Street. The smoke from the fire can be seen for miles. Just after 6 p.m. crews had the fire under control. The NewsChannel 15 photojournalist on scene said she saw it from five miles away when she was on her way.

Crews responded around 3:30 p.m. to what originally looked like a warehouse at 105 South Wayne Street. Witnesses said the warehouse is actually an antiques shop. Firefighters couldn’t provide information if the shop was open at the time of the fire.

It’s not known if anyone was in the building at the time of the fire.

All train traffic in the area has been stopped until further notice and police have closed off Wayne Street from the railroad tracks to Douglas Street as fire crews fight the blaze.

At least four fire department are on the scene: crews from Angola, Kendallville, Edgerton and Auburn have all been seen fighting the flames.
