NYC DOT electrical worker, 57-year-old George Staab, of Shirley, was fatally struck by a car off the southbound Hutchinson River Parkway near Exit 5 in Baychester


BAYCHESTER, Bronx (WABC) --

A NYC Department of Transportation worker was fatally struck by a car Wednesday morning in the Bronx.

It happened around 10:26 a.m. off the southbound Hutchinson River Parkway near Exit 5 in Baychester.

The NYC DOT worker, 57-year-old George Staab, of Shirley, was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center.

The driver remained at the scene and was treated at for minor injuries.

No criminality is suspected.

A 57-year-old city Department of Transportation worker was struck and killed on the Hutchinson River Parkway in the Bronx on Wednesday, police said.

The man, identified by police as George Staab of Shirley, Long Island, was hit near the southbound exit 4N at about 10:45 p.m.

He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The car that hit him remained on the scene, police said.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear. The DOT did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A Department of Transportation worker was fatally struck by a car on the Hutchinson River Parkway Wednesday, according to sources.

The incident happened in the southbound lane of the Hutchinson River Parkway between exits 4 and 5 around 10:30 a.m.

Sources with the DOT confirmed an on-duty Bridges electrician was struck by a car and taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he later died.

Police remain on the scene investigating what appears to be the wreckage of the car allegedly involved in the incident.

Sources did not say what caused the car to strike the worker.
