SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A mother was killed and six others injured, including the woman's husband and child, in a hit-and-run accident in South Philadelphia.

It happened around 8:05 p.m. Friday at 21st and Jackson streets.

Police say a green minivan was traveling southbound on 21st Street.

Witnesses told police a white, four-door Toyota was traveling at a high-rate of speed going westbound on Jackson Street.









Police investigate deadly hit-and-run in South Philadelphia.

The car disregarded a stop sign, police say, and collided with the minivan.

Upon impact, the car jumped the curb at the southeast corner of 21st and Jackson, and struck a family of three, including a 36-year-old man, 38-year-old woman and 2-year-old child.

All three victims were taken to Jefferson University Hospital.

The woman was pronounced dead at 8:47 p.m.





The woman's husband and child are being treated for head and facial injuries.

Four occupants of the minivan, including two adults and two children, were also taken to Jefferson for unknown injuries.

Police say the car fled the scene and was located in the 2000 block of Synder Avenue.

Witnesses who saw the accident assisted police in locating the vehicle.

A 36-year-old man is in police custody, and is facing several charges including vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and related charges.
