A Pacific Gas & Electric Co. employee died on the job Thursday in Yuba County when the truck he was driving overturned into an irrigation canal.

The employee, whose name was not released, was 52 and lived in Grass Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.

"One of the members of our PG&E family was fatally injured while on the job today in Yuba County. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our employee's family, friends and co-workers. We are gathering details about the accident; however, right now our immediate priority is offering assistance to the employee's family and co-workers," PG&E said in a statement.

The CHP said the man was performing his work duties at Honcut Creek Ranch in the 1900 block of Ramirez Road when he misjudged the width of a narrow road and backed his truck over the edge.

The 2014 GMC Sierra overturned and came to rest on its roof within the waterway, the CHP said. The driver became partially submerged, resulting in his death. The incident occurred at 12:39 p.m.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as a factor in the collision at this time. The investigation is underway.
