A warehouse and a truck caught fire at Greif Corporation in La Porte, Texas

Warehouse, truck catch fire in La Porte
A warehouse and a truck caught fire this morning at a La Porte business. Reporter Courtney Fischer reports.
Fire officials are on the scene of a warehouse fire at a business in La Porte, trying to figure out how the blaze began.

An employee at a nearby plant spotted the fire around 5am in the 10850 Strang Road, La Porte, Texas 77571. No one was inside the warehouse when the fire started, according to police.

A company truck also went up in flames. It's unclear where the fire began, whether inside the warehouse or the vehicle.

Initially, it was thought the fire started at another location owned by the company Greif, but we've learned that is not the case.

Flames are out, and the fire marshal is now on the scene.

Asked if the fire is suspicious, Harris County arson investigator James Singleton said, "The facility was secure at the time of the fire. An employee coming to work this morning discovered the fire and called 911. At this time, cause or anybody being in there is fairly undetermined, we're still looking at that."

Pollution Control was called to the fire as a precaution, but when firefighters went into the warehouse they realized that the warehouse was empty and there were no chemicals inside -- just some big, empty oil drums, according to police.

Firefighters battled a blaze Saturday morning at a chemical plant in La Porte.

The fire broke out about 5 a.m. in a warehouse at South Coast Terminals in the 10900 block of Strang, said Kristin Gauthier, La Porte Emergency Management Coordinator.

Gauthier said no injuries were reported and no chemicals burned. She said firefighters quickly got the upper hand on the flames and contained the fire to an area inside the warehouse.

Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
