1 driver killed, 1 injured after head-on collision between a Mustang and pickup truck on Loop 1604 in Universal City, Texas

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas -- 

A driver was killed when his car crashed into a pickup truck on Loop 1604 on the Northeast Side Friday morning. 

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. on Loop 1604 near Kitty Hawk Road. 

Universal City Police say the driver of a Mustang was traveling in the northbound lanes of Loop 1604, when he veered off the road, crossed the grassy median, and crashed head on into a Toyota Tundra in the southbound lanes. 

The impact sent the Mustang into a guardrail. 

It then bounced off the guardrail and came to rest between the shoulder of the road and outside lane. 

The 31-year-old man who was driving the Mustang died at the scene. 

His name has not been released. 

The driver of the pickup truck was conscious and talking after the accident. He was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in undetermined condition. 

The accident is still under investigation.

 The southbound lanes of Loop 1604 were shut down for more than two hours while crews cleared the scene.
