NORTHAMPTON, PA

A tree trimmer was killed Tuesday morning in a freak accident that happened while crews were removing trees from an Andrea Drive property in the Holland section of the township.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was ejected from a bucket above a truck after the truck tipped over, police said. The bucket, police said, landed on top of the victim, an employee of Rick’s Tree Service in Ivyland.

Northampton police said the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad and Northampton Fire Co. were called to the scene at about 9:30 a.m. The initial call said the worker was conscious and bleeding from the mouth. When officers arrived, they found the man wasn’t breathing and CPR was started by several witnesses and Northampton firefighters.

The injured worker was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is being investigated by Northampton police and OSHA.
