GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Greenville firefighters are investigating what caused two explosions and a bus fire inside the Proterra factory on Whitlee Court early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the facility about a possible explosion around 3:45 a.m and arrived to see heavy smoke inside the building.

Firefighters soon learned that two explosions had occurred in the back right side of the building and requested additional manpower.

Employees were inside the building when the explosions occurred and were safely evacuated, firefighters said.

EMS and Greenville police also responded to the scene.

Firefighters discovered a bus on fire inside the building and by 8 a.m. said all fires had been extinguished and they were working to ventilate the building.
Firefighters said the explosions and fires did not appear suspicious.

Proterra manufactures zero-emission electric buses.

Dairy Drive was closed to all traffic as firefighters investigated. Workers at PET Dairy are urged to enter that facility via Fairforest Way.
