WORKER DIES DURING LOGGING IN FLORENCE, SC WHEN HE WAS STRUCK IN THE HEAD BY FALLING LOG

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF)

A worker died during a logging incident Wednesday at about 7:40 p.m. in Florence, according to the county coroner's office.

James Donald McCray, 58, of Andrews, was found by workers at a site on Old Ball Diamond Road, off of Old River Road, Coroner Keith VonLutcken stated in a news release. The workers found McCray lying on the ground with what appeared to be a head injury. He was working near a crane at the time.

McCray was pronounced dead a short time later at a nearby hospital.

The Florence County Sheriff's Office is assisting with the investigation, but foul play is not suspected. The body will be sent to Charleston for an autopsy on Friday.
