FUEL TANKER OVERTURNS IN NORTHPORT, ALABAMA LEAKING SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF GALLONS DIESEL AND GAS MIX

JUNE 7, 2015

NORTHPORT, ALA.

Northport, Ala., officials said Sunday they've slowed the diesel and gasoline leak from an overturned tanker on Highway 171.

Northport Fire and Rescue estimates several hundred gallons of mixed gasoline/diesel product was spilled when the fuel tanker overturned after an accident with an SUV around 10 a.m. at the 5 mile marker.

Authorities said the leak has been "slowed," but are still asking motorists to avoid the area.

Northport Fire Rescue said the surrounding area was evacuated immediately while their Hazmat team worked to clean up the spill. Tuscaloosa's Fire and Rescue Hazmat team also assisted.

The tanker driver was taken to DCH for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
