FISHING SHIP BEAR COVE POINT SANK OFF GEORGES BANK. TSB IS INVESTIGATING

The fishing ship Bear Cove Point sank off Georges Bank, USA. The accident happened on 100 nautical miles off Yarmouth, USA after water ingress from the propulsion system. The nearby fishing vessel tried to assist with pumping out the water, but unfortunately the vessel sank at 20 meters depth. 

All the crew abandoned the fishing ship Bear Cove Point accordingly and was rescued from the nearby vessels. The crew was transported to the local hospital in good health without any injuries. The local authorities succeeded to reach the ship wreck and will follow an investigation for the cause of sinking.
“Within an hour the vessel sunk, there were other fishing vessels around, they were on George’s Bank. Other vessels came to give assistance and try transfer pumps but it wasn’t enough to salvage the vessel”, said the manager of regional operations for the Atlantic Region of the Transportation Safety Board – Pierre Murray. 

“There were no visible problems with the hull and the mechanical and electrical systems were well maintained”, he finished. 
The fishing ship Bear Cove Point has overall length of 21.00 m, moulded beam of 6.00 m and maximum draft of 2.00 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 197 DWT. 

According to the shipowner official statement Bear Cove Point was well built and outfitted and has a proven track record as a capable offshore multipurpose fishing vessel. The vessel has a reputation as a good sea-boat in heavy weather conditions and the fully enclosed processing deck makes for a safe and comfortable work environment while at sea. 

They sent a statement of facts to the insurer and according to the claim the market value was 700,000 USD.

TSB deploys a team to Riverport, Nova Scotia, to assess an occurrence involving the fishing vessel Bear Cove Point
Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, 10 June 2015
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying a team of investigators to Riverport, Nova Scotia, to assess an occurrence involving the fishing vessel Bear Cove Point which sank on Georges Banks on 9 June 2015.
All 4 crew members were rescued. 
The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence.
