1 DEAD, 1 INJURED IN CRASH OF A BEECHCRAFT F35 BONANZA SMALL PLANE NEAR PAINE FIELD IN EVERETT, WASHINGTON

JUNE 10, 2015

EVERETT, WASHINGTON

One person was killed and a second injured in the crash of a small plane near Paine Field.

One man was killed and a second injured in the crash Wednesday morning of a small plane near Paine Field south of Everett.

A Beechcraft Bonanza departing from Paine Field Airport around 9 a.m. crashed in a heavily wooded area south of the runway, according to the Snohomish County Executive’s Office. The two men were the only people onboard.

The surviving victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with non-life-threatening injuries, according to hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the man who was killed and determine cause and manner of death.

The plane reportedly went down near the 11800 block of Mukilteo Speedway. The crash site is between airport property and Mukilteo Speedway near Everett.

Lt. Rodney Rochon of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said crews had to cut their way through brush to get to the plane, using chain saws and machetes.

Rochon says the injured man suffered bone fractures, but he was conscious and alert when he was carried out of the woods to a waiting ambulance. Medics were not able to revive the second victim.

It’s unclear if the man who died was the pilot or passenger, as the plane can be piloted from both seats, the county said.

Allen Kenitzer, of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), said the Beechcraft Bonanza crashed under unknown circumstances.

He said that both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board would be investigating.

The main Paine Field runway was shut down for three hours after the crash.
