1 WOMAN PEDESTRIAN KILLED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY CAR IN DOWNTOWN AUSTIN, TEXAS




MONDAY, JUNE 1, 2015

7:55 a.m. update: All lanes on Congress Avenue and East Third Street have reopened after a woman was struck by car Monday morning, police said.

7 a.m. update: A woman in her 40s is dead after she was struck by a car at the intersection of Congress Avenue and Third Street early Monday morning, police said.

About 5:36 a.m. officers responded to the crash and found the woman trapped under the car, police said.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge where she was pronounced dead at 6:06 a.m., police said.

Police say the driver was driving on East Third Street when he started slowing down for a red light and the woman tried to cross the street.

The driver will not face charges, police said.

One northbound lane of Congress Avenue and the 100 block of East Third Street remain closed while detectives investigate the crash, police said.

Earlier: The intersection of Congress Avenue and Third Street is blocked after a woman was struck by a car, police said.

About 5:36 a.m. officers responded to a reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a car at the intersection, police said.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with potentially life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The intersection remains closed while police investigate, officials said.

Pedestrian deaths have been on the rise.  Do not expect the drivers to watch for your safety.  You have to do it.  Slow down, look around you at all times, be cautious of everything and everybody.  Life is fragile and can be snapped away from you at any time.
