1 pilot killed in Cypress, Texas ultralight plane crash

JUNE 27, 2015

One man was killed when a glider crashed in the Cypress area just after 11 a.m. on Saturday.

"Some sort of unregistered, ultralight aircraft crashed in a field after apparently hitting some trees," Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford said.

An FAA inspector was en route to the site just before 1 p.m., said Lunsford, who is based in Fort Worth.

According to Thomas Gilliland, a spokesman with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, construction workers near Weiser Airpark, a private flight facility off U.S. 290 south of Telge, alerted authorities about a potential plane crash.

"Workers at the construction site said they saw an aircraft go down in the woods east of the runway," Gilliland said.
