CONSTRUCTION WORKER FALLS TO HIS DEATH IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK

APRIL 1, 2015

BROOKLYN, NY

A construction worker is dead after plunging more than 50 feet from a building under construction at the corner of Neptune Avenue and Brighton Third Street on April 1.

Vidal Sanchez-Roman of Coney Island fell from the six-story structure in Brighton Beach just before 11:30 am, and paramedics later pronounced him dead on the scene, Fire Department officials said.

Staten Island contractors VDA Construction Corporation are erecting the building — a planned community center — for developer Sam Shpelfogel, Department of Buildings filings indicate.

A man who answered the phone at Shpelfogel’s office declined to comment and refused to give his name.

No one answered the phone at the number VDA Construction has listed with the Department of Buildings.

The contractors have valid general liability, worker’s compensation, and disability insurance, according to city records.
