REEVES COUNTY – HAZMAT officials were called out to a rollover accident in Reeves County on Monday morning.

The accident happened on Interstate 10 near mile marker 222 just before 1:30 a.m.

DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, an 18-wheeler with a towed tanker was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the roadway.

The driver, 41-year-old Arrington Jerome Augustus, overcorrected in an attempt to gain control of the vehicle but overturned as did the towed tanker.

Officials say the tanker was transporting over 43,000 pounds of formaldehyde.

The tanker sustained minimal damage to the cargo tank.
