Steel worker with Steelco, Inc. fell 40-feet and was crushed to death at a job site in Austin, Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) —

Investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were at the construction site where a steel worker died after a fall Tuesday morning.

The man was helping to build steel for a subcontractor, Steelco, Inc.

Steelco, Inc. had been working on the newest phase of Paloma Ridge office building construction for nearly the last eight weeks.

“We breathe safety, but it’s still under investigation,” said Al Wells, Superintendent with Steelco, Inc., “and we’re sure that when the investigation is over, it will all come out.”

The site is located along North Ranch Road 620.

Austin-Travis County EMS said the call came in around 8:13 a.m.

According to investigators, the man was in his 30s and died after an approximate 40-foot fall.

“We’ve notified the family and our thoughts and prayers and condolences go out to them,” said Wells. “That’s all we know right now.”

According to OSHA records, Steelco, Inc hasn’t faced any violations in the last five years.

Neither has the General Contractor for the Paloma Ridge project, Hoar Construction.

OSHA tells KXAN investigations into workplace deaths usually take up to the full six months.
