A 52-year-old worker was injured in an explosion at Port Everglades as he was repairing a faulty valve on a fuel tanker



A worker at Port Everglades was rushed to the hospital with severe burns to his body after officials say he cut into a tanker that was possible loaded with gasoline, causing an explosion.

The worker, who Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue crews say is in his 40s, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with second and third degree burns to his torso following the flash fire.

Officials did not release any additional information, including what was inside the tanker and if any other workers were hurt.

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. - A 52-year-old worker was injured Friday in an explosion at Port Everglades, Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Todd LeDuc said.

The worker was repairing a faulty valve on a fuel tanker when the container exploded about 11:30 a.m., LeDuc said.

The man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with second-degree burns to his hands and feet. He also suffered lacerations to his face.

A Broward Sheriff's Office hazardous materials team inspected the site in case of any flammable gases and determined that none were present.

The state fire marshal was investigating the cause of the explosion.
 

The victim's identity was not immediately released.
