Bridge inspector Peter Bilinski working as a bridge inspector for The Corradino Group dies after he slipped and fell off the Palmetto Expressway about 25 feet onto South River Drive

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to one of the good guys - Peter Bilinski. Not only did he always have a smile on his face, he was truly a stand up guy. You would either find him as a volunteer coach for Plantation Pressure or on the field umping a game. We are all saddened by this loss. You will sorely be missed.

A construction inspector that fell off the Palmetto Expressway at an overpass near Northwest South River Drive Friday morning has died from his injuries, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The unidentified construction worker was inspecting work that had been done on the Palmetto overpass when he apparently slipped and fell about 25 feet onto South River Drive, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez said.

The victim was taken to Ryder Trauma Center by Miami Dade Fire Rescue where he later died.

This is the second time in a week in which a construction worker has been injured on a Miami-Dade County road. A man plunged off State Road 836 on Oct. 11 after a truck toppled on its side at the edge of the expressway.

A construction worker was killed and another injured in February in a crash between their boom lift and a Metromover car.

A construction worker has died after falling off the the Palmetto Expressway Friday morning, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

Authorities at the scene say the construction worker was injured after falling off the highway near Northwest South River Drive.

He was was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, according to a Medley police officer.

FHP officials confirmed he died at the hospital.

He’s been identified by his employer as Peter Bilinski, working as a bridge inspector for The Corradino Group. He was apparently surveying some construction when he fell.

The fall is estimated by fire rescue officials to be about 30 feet from the top of the overpass to the ground. At first he was conscious and telling rescuers that he was in a lot of pain.

"He was alert, oriented upon our arrival but that doesn’t mean that what he suffers inside is not significant so that’s why our crews packaged him rapidly, called air rescue and had him transported immediately to the appropriate facility," Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay said.

His employer sent out a press release expressing their sadness and saying that Mr. Bilinski was with them for over ten years.
