Careless boater crashes his speeding boat into the rocks in Woodbridge, NJ injuring 8 people on-board.

WOODBRIDGE, New Jersey (WABC) --

Multiple people were taken to the hospital when a boat hit a jetty near Woodbridge, New Jersey, on Sunday.

According to New Jersey State Police, the incident happened in Arthur Kill Channel around 5:41 p.m.

The eight people on board the boat were all taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. Five people reported injuries - two are in critical condition, and three are facing minor injuries

NYPD, FDNY, Perth Amboy PD, Woodbridge Township PD, U.S. Coast Guard and NJ State Police were on scene helping the injured.

It is unclear why the boat hit the jetty.  However, the crash was very loud and severe, sending 8 people to the hospital.  We will see if the operator was drunk, as typically these people drink and drive and speed and crash and die or injured, like this case.

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Eight people were injured, and two of them were critically injured, when a boat crashed into rocks in Woodbridge, New Jersey Sunday.

New Jersey State Police were called to 1 Ferry St. in Woodbridge at 5:41 p.m. for the accident in the Arthur Kill Channel.

Police said the boat with eight people on-board ran into the rocks. Five suffered injuries, and two of them were critically injured, police said.

A witness said he heard a loud crash and then saw the injured passengers lying on the deck.

“They all were hurt from it, because he hit it pretty hard – and once he hit it, it just stopped,” he said. “They were knocked out and stuff it was a pretty bad thing.”

One of the victims had to be taken by medevac helicopter, state police said.

All eight people on the boat were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway.

In an unrelated incident Sunday several miles away in the Shrewsbury River, a boat with 10 people onboard caught fire. No one was injured in that incident.
