SILVERTHORNE, Colo. -- Highway 9 is shut down in both directions north of Silverthorne after a worker was killed in a construction zone.
The Colorado State Patrol was informed of the incident at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday.
The CSP did not have information on how the construction worker was killed.
Highway 9 is impacted at mile marker 104 (northbound) and mile marker 109 (southbound), according to Amy Ford with the Colorado Department of Transportation.
CDOT is conducting a resurfacing project on the highway.
"The closure will be lengthy while the investigation is completed," CDOT said in a statement released Thursday afternoon.

SILVERTHORNE, Colo. (KKTV) - A Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) worker was killed on Thursday in Silverthorne.
CDOT and contractor APC Southern Construction Company was conducting a resurfacing project on CO 9/US 6 at the time of the death at about 1:30 p.m. CO 9 was closed for about one mile just south of Kremmling to the Silverthorne Town Limits.
Matt Kroschel with CBS Denver is reporting the worker was hit and killed by a steamroller inside the construction zone.
The $11 million project includes milling and paving CO 9 and US 6, curb and gutter work, ADA ramp work, erosion control, signal work, signage and traffic control. The 8-mile section of road under repaving carries 31,000 vehicles every day. Work began on the project in May 2017 and is scheduled to be complete late fall of 2017.

Resurfacing project on CO 9 and US 6 to begin this week in Dillon

SUMMIT COUNTY/DILLON – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor APC Southern Construction Company are scheduled to start the Colorado Highway (CO) 9 and US 6 Repaving project this week. The project will span approximately 7.4 miles along CO 9 and US 6, along the corridor of I-70 in Dillon. Additional benefits to the work area include the installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) -compliant ramps and sidewalks, and storm water drainage improvements. A traffic detection system will also be implemented to improve the flow of traffic patterns along this stretch of roadway, decreasing wait times for motorists.
The established work zone on CO 9 will extend from Mile Points (MP) 101.6 to 107. The work zone on US 6 will be between MPs 208.7-210.7. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-October 2017.
"The Dillon and Silverthorne resurfacing project has been needed for some time due to deteriorating pavement condition over the years, as it was last paved in 2002,” says CDOT Resident Engineer Grant Anderson. “The resurfacing will improve drainage and the overall ride, and safety will therefore be improved.”
WORK SCHEDULE
The schedule for the six-month project include daytime working hours of 7:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 am – 12:00 pm on Friday. Night work will be required when paving at the intersection of I-70 and CO 9, with the intent of lessening the impact on the traveling public. No work is expected on weekends or holidays.
TRAVEL AND PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS
Motorists can expect delays of up to 20 minutes during project working hours, and speed limits will be reduced. There will be alternating lane closures in both directions, and flaggers will be directing traffic along the construction zone. Width restrictions of 12 feet will be in place for the duration of the project. Despite the ongoing sidewalk enhancements, pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the course of the project. Please pay close attention to posted detours. Flaggers will be on-site to guide pedestrians through the construction zone in certain situations.
